Hindi is the most commonly used language for communication in the northern India (which contains the Hindi Belt), and is also an official language of the Government of India, along with English.
Member of the Indo-Aryan group within the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family. It is the preferred official language of India, although much national business is also done in English and the other languages recognized in the Indian constitution. Literary Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, has been strongly influenced by Sanskrit. Its standard form is based on the Khari Boli dialect, found to the north and east of Delhi. The Devanagari consists of 11 vowels and 33 consonants and is written from left to right. Unlike for Sanskrit, Devanagari is not entirely phonetic for Hindi, especially failing to mark schwa dropping in spoken Standard Hindi.
Learning Hindi has been growing popular, especially in the southern part of India, given the increase in the inter-state travel, professional growth, national interest pumped by news and social media and so on.
